The Hindustan Times Haseena's story has been chronicled by the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times. The newspaper has continued to follow the events in Haseena's life, and is updated regularly with her thoughts and aspirations. It has detailed how Haseena has tried to reinvent herself as a successful doctor. She has moved from a state hospital to a private one, and in the process has chosen to leave behind the underworld. The Hindustan Times noted that as a result of her new life, Haseena has no more ties with Dawood Ibrahim's gang and has also turned against her brother. The aim of the present study was to identify the barriers to learning and to assess the attitudes of second year dental students to learning in the dental school in a South African university. A cross-sectional study was carried out in August 2015 at the University of the Free State School of Dentistry (UFSDS) in Bloemfontein. The survey consisted of 12 closed-ended questions on the perceptions of dental students regarding their perceived barriers to learning. Data were analysed using SPSS V22.0 statistical software. Thematic analysis of qualitative data was performed. One hundred and fifty-four dental students (89.8% female) participated in the study. The majority (94.4%) of students did not report experiencing any barriers to learning in the dental school. The most frequently reported barrier was poor student/teacher relationship (59.7%). The second most reported barrier was inadequate training (37.6%). The results suggest that the students were supportive of the reported curriculum changes. The study shows that the most frequently reported barrier to learning in the UFSDS is related to student/teacher relationship. the design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript.
